Game rental of the week: Zack and Wiki on the Wii

Fans of the Wii rightly point out that there are games on the wii that other systems just not would be able to handle and certainly Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbados Treasure is one of those games.  Using the intricracies of the wiimote to great detail, this game immerses you in the world of Zack the pirate, who seeks to be the top pirate in the world.  This is a classic arcade/adventure game with puzzles and bosses to overcome throughout.  The game certainly makes full of the wii and it's peripherals.A wonderful example of the interactivity is where you have to shake a tree.  Rather than button-bashing as you would on any other console, here you have grip the wiimote like it is a piece of wood and give it a good shake.

The game also lends itself to co-operation between players, with a player able to draw attention to something on screen by use of the wiimote, certainly a nice touch.

Zaack and Jack is not going to be everyone's cup of tea and we certainly recommend it as a game to rent initially rather than buy.  GamezGecko have in stock, you can sign up with them here and give it a trial.

Game of the week - Bioshock on the Xbox360

2007 was the certainly the year of the First Person Shooter (FPS) with Halo 3 and Call of Duty 4 calling the shots i nterms of sales.  However, there was another minor classic which should certainly not be ignored.  While Call of Duty revels in its online playability, Bioshock concentrates on the single player game and what an adventure it is.

Trapped in an underwater world, it's Resident Evil meets Jaws as the murky depths provide an ideal background for an ideal world which has gone horrifically wrong.  This atmosphere and tension is beautifully realised throughout the game and every turn will bring a surprise a shock.

Definitely one of the under-stated classics of 2007, you can hire Bioshock from here

Game of the week - Call of Duty 4

Since we started playing games (and turst us, it's a long time ago) we have often be faced with the hype 'warning: this game will ruin your social life'.  All hyped up and ready to go, we buy the game, only to be finding ourselves desperate enough to do anything but play the game after 5 minutes.  There are some excpetions of course, Elite was probably the first and the first Sonic the Hedgehog had the same affect until completion.  And we can now add to the list Call of Duty 4.

Simply put, the game is awesome.  In single player mode, a variety of action packed missions are given to you with a beautifully paced stealth mission included.  But it is online that this game comes into its own.  From Deathmatch to the more tactical Search and Destroy, the action is exciting and addictive.  The more missions and kills you partake in, the more benefits you unlock, which leads you to enhanced weaponry and 'perks'.  One of our favourite perks in the 'last stand' which allows you to draw out a pistol just as you have been killed and lets you pop off a few shots before fading to the cyber grave.
